Sean bradley wins The Erinvale Open after a nail biting play-off

Greetings from Erinvale Friday, 12 August 2016

DIRECTOR'S REPORT

Erinvale Open
It is usually the weather that causes the drama at the Erinvale Open, this year was different - it was golf's turn, which had many similarities to the Duel in the Sun Part 2 we witnessed at Troon for the Open Championship between Stenson and Mickelson, as in our case it was a shootout between Sean Bradley and Michael Sheriff with Bradley eventually winning on the 3rd playoff hole and 3rd place being 8 shots behind.

Bradley opened his account where he left off at the previous week’s Strand Open; six birdies and an eagle (66) gave him a three-shot lead over Sherriff (69), who really wasn’t having much luck with his putter in his opening round.

In the afternoon Sherriff turned the three-shot deficit to just one after the first five holes. Bradley then stepped up a gear and holed four birdies in a row, and after 27 holes was now 12-under-par and had a six-shot lead.

Fortunes had changed by the time the players reached the par 3 14th, Bradley had three bogeys on his card and with Sherriff picking up three birdies and a bogey, was now only two shots adrift.

When both players bogeyed the par 4 17th, Sherriff needed to birdie the par 4, 18th to ensure a play-off. He nailed the birdie putt and so both players signed for a total 8-under-par, and play continued with a sudden death play-off.

Michael's putter turned cold and missed a sitter to win on the first playoff hole. With darkness looming the players halved the next hole, and Sean sealed the win with a par on the third hole.
