CAPTAIN'S CHAT
Dear Members,
As I write this I am pleased to say that our winter rains have started and not a moment too soon. Let’s hope they continue to fall over the next couple of months. Unfortunately, it plays havoc with our golf but if we do not get significant rain we’ll be in very serious trouble at the end of the year and I am not only referring to the golf course but our lives in general. Last week our dams supplying the Cape Metropolitan area were only 30% full, the lowest in recorded history for this time of the year.
We always wax lyrical about the magnificent sunsets we have over Erinvale. Well if you were an early riser like Brigitte du Plessis, who took this picture, you would have witnessed this magnificent sunrise a few weeks ago.

New Head Chef:
As you are aware Roger has resigned and we need to find a new Head Chef. To ensure that we choose the right person for this demanding position we did things a little differently. We formed a selection team consisting of Gavin, myself and two consultants who have each over forty years of cooking and management roles in the hospitality industry. We held numerous interviews and in the end settled on the top two candidates. They had to use our kitchen and prepare a four course menu where we gave them a main ingredient for each course and they could prepare whatever they wished. They had to present each dish then left us to sample and adjudicate. We had one candidate in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Juan Neethling Each course was judged on all aspects of experiencing a good meal such as presentation, flavour, flair and originality. Both were very well presented with very little difference between them which left us with a difficult task of choosing the best person for the position. Once we all concurred as to who would be a first choice he was then subjected to a full psychometric assessment.
It is now my pleasure to introduce our new Head Chef, Juan Neethling who started with us onMonday 20 June and comes to us from Pearl Valley. He has experience in cooking for golf patrons, not that we are different but there are various requirements for the different food outlets in a golf club. He is a graduate of the Granger Bay International Hotel School.
He has worked in restaurants overseas as well as a few years on luxury cruise liners before returning to SA where he worked at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the Waterfront and Port Elizabeth.
Please join me in welcoming him to Erinvale and I am sure you will soon be enjoying his cuisine in our restaurant.
Best regards,
Dean
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
This week has been an exciting one for Erinvale in that we are proud to announce our new Executive Chef Juan Neethling. He started on Monday, has hit the ground running and we do appreciate it takes a bit of time to adjust to his new environment but we are confident that he will make a considerable difference.
We will announce shortly our new menu’s as well as operating hours so stay tuned as you don’t want to miss out on this great time for Erinvale.
Winter Club Championships:
A friendly reminder that next week Saturday will be the Inaugural Winter Club Championships. As per Club Championships, it will be a seeded draw but this time, it is over 18 holes of Strokeplay as opposed to 36 holes.
The entry sheets are on the notice board and entries close next week Thursday, with the draw being announced on Friday the 1st July.
Even though there are divisional trophies for B & C for Men and Bronze for ladies the respective winter club champion division is an open division which entitles every member to enter the champions division. We look forward to an exciting event with great competitive golf being had.
Volvo World Championships:
Last weekend was the second fixture of the four-legged series with Volvo and we would like to congratulate Rod Gush on his great performance in winning.
What makes this victory more impressive is that Rod has been struggling with his game for a great deal of time and I am sure there have been times where he wanted to throw in the towel but to his credit, he has perceived and we hope he has the worst behind him.
Congratulations Rod, it is great to see you again in the winning circle.

Rob Gush

Staff vs Eagles:
Last week saw the annual challenge between Staff and Eagles. The build up to this challenge as per every year was one of the lots of banter and challenges.
Unfortunately, the staff team were not able to get bragging right over the members. Congratulations to the Eagles on great golf, but the staff will be back to compete again.

Lerisha and Florence passing with flying colours:
Recently in our aim to uplight our team we arranged a coffee training course in conjunction with Ciro Coffees for two of our team namely Lerisha and Florence.
It was a gruelling few days of theory, practical and in conclusion a written exam. I am pleased to announce that both Lerisha and Florence passed with flying colours.
It has been great to see the enthusiasm they have had since the course and in conjunction with feedback from members, it makes it all worth well.
I encourage you all to come try the perfect way to have a coffee make with enthusiasm and passion from either Lerisha or Florence. Well done ladies.

Regards,
Gavin
